Anne Sheedy Gardner was first mentored by Paul Desmond and Norman Bates, both members of her Dad’s jazz band, when she was a young girl. That early training, along with flute studies on scholarship with Severino Gazzelloni in Rome and Julius Baker, Yusef Lateef, and Sam Baron in NYC, helped her in her early career as an on-call studio and Broadway musician in NYC and as a touring musician throughout the US, Italy, Canada and Japan. She has appeared as soloist with the San Francisco Symphony, performed on tour with the Yale Woodwind Quintet, and was presented in live and televised recitals in NYC and California through the auspices of the Concert Artists Guild. She performed as principal flute and soloist for twelve years in two ensembles conducted by Oscar Shumsky (in NYC and NJ), as guest artist with the Artist/Faculty Ensemble at UC Berkeley, with the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa, NYC Bach Chamber Soloists, New Structures Ensemble at Carnegie Hall, American Artists series at Kennedy Center, Orchestra of Our Time at the Guggenheim Museum, Camerata di Colombaia in Italy, and as a touring soloist with the Nebraska Arts Council for fifteen years. She taught at NYU, Goddard College, Usdan Center of the Arts, and Peru State College. Her specialties include coaching students to win auditions, scholarships, and competitions and helping doublers develop a clear, beautiful sound on the flute. She enjoys being an adjudicator with the Lincoln Public Schools. Anne has performed and recorded with many outstanding artists over the years including members of the Emerson String Quartet, YoYo Ma, Alan Menken, Bon Jovi, Odetta, Oscar Shumsky, Ariel Bybee, Paul Zukovsky, and for countless commercials and film scores recorded in NYC, Toronto, and Los Angeles. She also appeared as Maxmillian Schell’s piccolo playing nightmare in a German avant garde film and toured as Joseph Campbell’s flute playing muse for two years. Anne enjoys subbing with the Lincoln Municipal Band and playing with other local groups.
